International project involving Professor Susana Barreiro wins Horizon Europe funding

CEF researcher Susana Barreiro is collaborating on an international project that aims to explore the potential of trees to mitigate the risks associated with the climate and biodiversity crises.

Susana Barreiro, a researcher in the CEF’s ForChange group, has received funding for the projectTrees4Adapt – Addressing complex risks from climate change and biodiversity loss across systems and scales: Leveraging the potential of tree-based solutions for adaptation in Europe.

Coordinated by the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), the Trees4Adapt project involves international collaboration in the search for tree-based solutions as a way of mitigating the complex risks associated with the climate and biodiversity crises. The Portuguese case study focuses on the recovery of burnt areas in Serra da Estrela.

Funded under the HORIZON-MISS-2024-CLIMA-01-04 “Research the complex interplay between the climate and biodiversity crises towards more systemic approaches and solutions” call of the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2023-2025 Mission Adaptation to Climate Change, this project aims to support the definition of strategic priorities that strengthen climate resilience and promote the preservation of biodiversity, contributing to more integrated and sustainable solutions.
