ForEco

Forest Ecology

ForEco engages in basic and applied ecological research in support of ecosystem management for sustainable production of goods and services, against a background of changes in climate, land use, and societal needs. Our work ranges from local to global scale and deals with a variety of ecosystems, namely cork oak woodlands, eucalypt plantations, Mediterranean-type shrub lands, and tropical savannas.

Topics addressed include biogeochemical (C and N) and water balances, biodiversity response to climate and land use change, monitoring and assessing the impacts of ecological disturbances such as drought and fire, management of short-rotation forest plantations, and land use/cover dynamics.
