Biochar is considered by the IPCC to be the most mature and promising CDR (carbon dioxide removal) strategy, as well as having an effect on both climate change mitigation and adaptation. Especially in highly acidic soils, the presence of biochar increases crop productivity, improves soil health and contributes to the remediation of degraded soils. Its decentralized and low-cost production can make it viable for small and medium-sized farmers to adopt this technology, especially in developing countries.
