My research focuses on the study of resilience, patterns and processes of change of Mediterranean oak ecosystems, in particular cork oak ecosystems, at the landscape and the plant community scales.

At the landscape scale, I model the dynamics of Mediterranean forest landscapes to understand landscape changes and select key human and environmental drivers of change. At the plant community scale, I study Mediterranean oak natural regeneration and early establishment in different habitat and microhabitat conditions. In particular, I am interested in the net effect of interactions (facilitation or competition) between oak seedlings and neighbouring shrub species across gradients of abiotic resources.

I am also interested on the theory of regime shifts and tipping points applied to oak forest ecosystems, looking for early warning indicators to assess the risk of oak woodland loss and to restore degraded woodlands.
