Welcome to the MSc degree in
Forest Engineering and Natural Resources(MEFRN)

School of Agriculture (ISA - Instituto Superior de Agronomia)

Learn about forests and natural resources. Engage in building resilient ecosystems...

Forests cover 36% of mainland Portugal, but theseareas are currently facing enormous challenges that need to be tackled. For that we need to acquire skills to do so.

By 2050, we will have about 9 billion people on Earth who will have to be fed and supplied with sustainable products to ensure the conservation of biodiversity and a balanced provision of ecosystem services.

Global demand for woody and non-woody forest products is expected to increase more than threefold over the next three decades.

Wood and its uses, through the maintenance of carbon stocks, are important milestones to face climate change.

The MSc degree in Forest Engineering and Natural Resources aims to equip professionals with specialized skills through theoretical and practical training for:

  • the planning and sustainable management of forest ecosystems, agroforestry and urban forest areas, fulfilling socio-economic and environmental objectives based on highly specialized cutting-edge knowledge and critical thinking;
  • an adaptive management and mitigation of climate change impacts (e.g. fire, drought, pests);
  • the production of wood and non-wood forest products, including game and fisheries ;
  • the conservation of natural resources through their sustainable use.

The MSc degree in Forest Engineering and Natural Resources is highly committed to strategic PARTNERSHIPS to reinforce the practical component in the professional environment.

And we want more of our students!

Why Forest Engineering and Natural Resources?
