G1 - Resource Management & Landscape Architecture
G1 – Resource Management & Landscape Architecture includes researchers with multidisciplinary expertise from natural and urban ecosystems to landscape architecture. G1 main subjects are a) eco-responsible landscape management, b) food production from sustainable agricultural systems, including precision and regenerative agriculture, c) water use in climate adaptation, and d) reducing the environmental impacts of agriculture.
Our 4 main research areas are:
- Landscape and land use planning
- Agriculture and environmental assessment
- Irrigation and climate change
- Innovative technologies for environmental management
Researchers from G1 actively participate in extensive national and international networks related to landscape planning (e.g., Portuguese municipalities; development of the EPIC WebGIS used by various civil society sectors), soil (e.g., IUSS, Sociedade Portuguesa do Solo) and water (e.g., FAO, Portuguese producer associations) sciences, and organic residues management (LEAF co-chairs the Ramiran network). At the national level, LEAF is a strong player regarding gaseous emissions from agriculture, being the promoter of the new national network EmiAgro (Rede Científica de Emissões Gasosas na Agricultura, Pecuária e Florestas).
