At TERRA, we are more than 400 researchers from five research units of excellence at the Universities of Lisbon and Coimbra. The research units complement each other and converge on a common theme: sustainability in land use, and its products and services, and the healthy maintenance of ecosystems and human populations.

TERRA headquarters is at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA), on the Tapada da Ajuda Campus, the Lisbon Green Lab or GreenLab@Lisbon. ISA is the first national higher education institution to lead a Living Lab recognized by the European Network of Living Labs.

Teresa Ferreira, Full Professor

TERRA COORDINATOR

We are an integral part of the heterogeneous mosaic into which we have transformed our environment. Environmental management and planning must be carried out in an integrated manner, taking into account natural values, as well as the services ecosystems provide us. TERRA aims to provide innovative scientific and socio-ecological evidence to support best management practices and policy-making for sustainable land use and the bio-circularity of product chains, considering the societies that sustain them.

Paulo Branco, PhD

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The researchers are TERRA. We can only respond to society's current challenges because we have a critical mass, multi- and interdisciplinary, consisting of over 400 integrated TERRA researchers. This diversity ensures integrated approaches with a high degree of complementarity, always based on rigorous scientific knowledge, working across various spatial and biological organization scales. Together, we build a more sustainable and healthier future!
