University of Lisbon is associated with the World Food Preservation Center

The World Food Preservation Center LLC has announced that University of Lisbon in Portugal has joined its worldwide consortium of thirteen “sister” universities and ARO Volcani Center in Israel to reduce postharvest food losses in developing countries and diminish world hunger.

The University of Lisbon (ULisboa) is the largest higher education and research institution in Portugal and a top ranking university in agricultural sciences in Europe. ULisboa is organized into 18 schools, and has 90 research centers and strong international collaborations throughout the world. One of the schools, the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA, College of Agricultural Sciences) is the largest and most qualified school in the Agricultural Sciences in Portugal. With long and close relationships with tropical regions, the University of Lisbon is committed to contribute to the goals of the World Food Preservation Center.

The Freshness Lab, the postharvest reseach unit of ULisboa, is leading the establishment of World Food Preservation Center® in Lisbon. Through the Freshness Lab ISA-ULisboa is actively collaborating with sister universities of World Food Preservation Center® LLC to develop a curriculum for advanced education and a reseach agenda to reduce postharvest losses in developing countries. 

The World Food Preservation Center LLC is a consortium of thirteen major research universities and a research institute (ARO Volcani Center, Israel) on six continents dedicated toward providing an advanced world-class postharvest education (M.S. and Ph.D.) to young students in developing countries and conducting research on much needed new postharvest technologies.
