He had licentiate´s degree in Environmental Engineering at the Higher School of Technology, Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, and had master's degree in Forestry and Natural Resources, with specialization in Natural Resource Management at the School of Agriculture, University of Lisbon.
As a researcher is interested in studying the following themes:
- Forest fires (prevention, response and recovery of burned areas);
- Fire ecology;
- Use of prescribed burning for forest management;
- Use of fire suppression for combat;
- Sociology of communities at risk of wildfire;
- Security of communities to forest fires;
- Management of invasive plants (Acacia ssp., and others).
