Our researcher Inês Duarte has participated in "Natura 2000 Network: Forest Habitat Management” an European Commission's workshop, from May 9 to 11, in the Luberon Natural Park, in France. Our researcher presented a CEABN InBIO study in collaboration with the Spanish Department of Forest Systems Management.
With a work entitled "The relevance of the Iberian Peninsula forest habitats for the Natura 2000 Nerwork", the team identified the Iberian Peninsula habitats that should be considered more relevant in the evaluation, management and decision process, regardless its priority status. It was applied a method previously developed by our researcher, which takes into account the rarity and representativeness in calculating the relevance of “Natura 2000 Network” habitats.
In this workshop the main topics presented were related to the management of the “Natura 2000 Network” habitats in an integrated management of forest habitats approach to benefit forestry and simultaneously the nature conservation. 40 experts attended this event from France, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain.
