The Centre for Applied Ecology "Professor Baeta Neves" (CEABN) and the League for the Protection of Nature (LPN) celebrate the centenary of Carlos Manuel Baeta Neves, founder of the LPN and personality that gives its name to the Applied Ecology Center of the Institute of Agronomy.
100 years ago Carlos Manuel Baeta Neves was born. He was a prestigious forester engineer and recognized teacher and researcher. He is one of the first Portuguese environmentalists and a great activist of the protection of nature. Baeta Neves founded the LPN in 1948, the oldest non-governmental environment organization of the Iberian Peninsula. In 1995 the CEABN was founded and its facilities are located in the house where Professor Baeta Neves lived for more than two decades as professor at ISA.
In May 23, at 14:00, the exhibition “The Life and Work of Carlos Manuel Baeta Neves" will be inaugurated in the “Salão Nobre” of the Institute of Agronomy. This exhibition aims to celebrate the centenary of one of the most relevant pioneer of the unfinished challenge of the conservation of nature and the search for a sustainable way of life based on justice and balance in the valuation of the use of natural resources.
