On the 25th and 26th of October of 2014 it was held the International Symposium on Fire Arts and Sciences, in Castelo de Vide. This is the first initiative of the future International Centre of Sciences and Arts of Fire (CICAF), a project to 2015 based in the Santo Amaro church.

On the 25th the presentations were focused on the forest and fire history in the United States of America (USA) and in Europe (mainly in the Mediterranean) as well as on the presentation of the CICAF. The CICAF aims to bring together the scientific, cultural and artistic components of fire by promoting the exchange of experience and knowledge with symposiums, training, educational programs, exhibitions, workshops, where science and art go hand in hand.

On the 26th took place a guided tour to the Natural Park of São Mamede where the participants had the opportunity to see the landscape diveristy, the species biodiversity and the protection against wildfires by the use of prescribed burning.

This Symposium was promoted by the Centre for Applied Ecology (CEABN InBio), by the Municipality of Castelo de Vide and by the Portuguese Society of Forest Sciences (SPCF) to show the potencial of the CICAF to the Alentejo region and to the country. The next step is to make the investment of a milion and half euros as priortity in the European Framework Horizont 2020 and with that funding start the recovery of the Santo Amaro church.
