On October 8th, CEABN InBio organized the 3rd Case Study Dialogue Forum - Stakeholders Workshop, focused on in the discussion of strategies and measures for long-term drought risk mitigation in Portugal. During the week, 20 European experts in drought issues discussed the main results of the DROUGHT R&SPI European Project. On Friday, October 11th there was a field trip to Alentejo to assess the importance of the Mediterranean land cover and of the cork oak woodland (“montado”) for the water preservation in the ecosystem. The field trip had the participation of Carina Arranja, from FENAREG (National Irrigators’ Federation), who presented examples of irrigated systems where the drought impacts have been mitigated through the integration of technological innovation and participative management to accomplish major water use efficiency.
