26.09.2011 - COST FP0603 Final meeting "Forest models for research and decision support in sustainable forest management" - Pierroton (Bordeaux), France - 1-2 March 2012
COST FP0603 Final meeting will be an international conference focusing on the current state of knowledge on forest models and their use to support decision support in sustainable forest management. It will highlight the results of the COST Action FP0603 and discuss them in the context of the world research on this topic. The conference is directed not only to researchers but provides also a forum for stakeholders where the support of models to forest management will be presented and discussed. A call for contributions is open and the deadline for submissions is Monday October 31, 2011. Submit your abstract (300 words) using the abstract template from the conference website or to Céline Krier EFIATLANTIC (firstname.lastname@efi.int). Notifications of acceptance will be sent to authors by 15th December 2011. The abstract must include:

- a comprehensive title
- a preference between oral presentation and poster
- an indication of the topic(s) addressed by the contribution
- the names and affiliations of all contributors

10.02.2011 - call for Spring School 2011 - "Modeling Forest Ecosystems"
It is open a call for applications for the COST FP0603 Spring School 2011 "Modeling Forest Ecosystems - Concepts, Data, and Application", from 9 to 13 of May 2011, Kaprun /Austria.

The purpose of the Modeling Spring School 2011 is to bring together high quality Ph.D. Students and Post Docs (not more then 1 year after graduation) interested in forest ecosystem modeling. We will have lectures, group work in the field and classroom and demonstrations of existing models. In addition we ask each accepted candidate to prepare a poster about her/his modeling work for the poster session. Each student will be given an assignment according to his/her work (objectives and data available) in which the student will work during the sessions on model applications and problem solving potential. During the last day, the students will present the results of their work followed by a general discussion.

The COST Action FP0804 FORSYS will have a large workshop soon: DSFM 2010 – Workshop on Decision Support Systems in Sustainable Forest Management - Experiences and Perspectives - Lisbon, 19-22 April 2010. As there are connections between FP0603 and FP0804 Actions you might be interested participating on this workshop. The deadline for abstract submissions is 25th January. The COST Action FP0603 is announcing this workshop but no funding for this workshop will be given through Action FP0603. The WG3 meeting which will be held in Brussels on the 12th of May is coming up. There might be additional COST members who would like to participate and there might be still be place for some. As a reminder the members attending to the working group meetings are expected to actively contribute with their input so the targets proposed by each working group will be achieved. 1st Steering Committee Meeting - University of Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland
The members of the Steering Committee (Margarida Tomé, Hubert Hasenauer, Annikki Mäkelä, Marc Palahí and Frits Mohren) have met on the February 5th, at the University of Helsinki. The SC has decided that the next full WG meeting will take place on 8 and 9 May 2008 in Vienna, with Hubert Hasenauer (BOKU) as local host. In principle arrival should be on Wednesday 7, departure either on Friday 9 in the evening or Saturday 10.
