SafeGrain - Contamination of stored grain and derivatives by insect pests and fungi

Main objective | To study different aspects of two major pests of stored grain: Trogoderma granarium Everts (Coleoptera, Dermestidae) and Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) (Coleoptera, Tenebrionidae), including the relationship between these species and fungi mycotoxins producers, and to estimate the nutritional value of these Tenebrionidae larvae and the degree of infestation allowed that does not alter the rheological properties of the cereal flours.

SelVid - Conservation and Selection of Ancient Grapevine Varieties

SuberPhyto - Unconventional approaches in our struggle against Phytophthora in the cork oak forest. Zooming-in on the microbiome

Main objective | Phytophthora spp. cause devastating effects around the world, with special emphasis on the Portuguese ‘montado’, since neither cure nor control can be achieved. Quercus suber is only moderately susceptible to Phytophthora, thus supporting field observations that other causes sensitize the plants to infection. This proposal will (i) select plant consociations for the herbaceous layer which make soil conditions unfavorable to Phytophthora, (ii) identify environmental constraints expected to sensitize plants to infection, and (iii) test potent biostimulants/defense boosters.
