The NOBEL Project was officially launched at The ForestValue Research Programme Kick-Off Seminar in Helsinki on 23rd and 24th of May 2019. NOBEL was one of the 17 projects selected by the international "ForestValue – Innovating the forest-based bioeconomy" Joint Call.

NOBEL is a 3 year project, lead by the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU) in Austria and several other partners, including the School of Agriculture – University of Lisbon, through CEF. Prof. José Guilherme Borges coordinates the participation of CEF.

The objectives of NOBEL are:

(i) to develop business models & mechanisms to internalize the socio-economic value of forest ecosystems,

(ii) to combine public policy tools with business models for implementing payments for forest ecosystem services (FES) at multiple levels,

(iii) to demonstrate and compare alternative approaches for payments in five different European regions.
