The Forest Research Centre (CEF) of Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA) is opening a tender for the attribution of a Research Scholarship for students enrolled in a master’s degree in the field of Forestry, Agronomy, Biology or similar areas to undertake research work within the scope of the project FWUME - Foliar water uptake contribution to water status and carbon assimilation in Mediterranean ecosystems (EXPL/ASP-SIL/1259/2021).

The scholarship holders will be involved in work needed for the assessment of the water uptake capacity of cork oak leaves, both in seedlings, under controlled conditions, and in mature trees, under field conditions.
Works include:

  • Installation and maintenance of experiments under controlled conditions (greenhouse, ISA) and in the field (Companhia das Lezírias and Tapada Real de Vila Viçosa)
  • Physiological measurements in seedlings and adult cork oaks
  • Processing of leaf samples for chemical and related determinations
  • Data analysis
  • Publication of results in the form of a master's thesis

 

The scholarship if financed by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) and the work will be developed at the Tree Ecophysiology Laboratory, in the Professor Azevedo Gomes Building of the Instituto Superior de Agronomia, under the scientific supervision of Raquel Lobo do Vale and Carla Nogueira.

The call is open from the 25th of March to the 7th of April.
