European Commission Conference: "Our Forests, Our Future"
On the 26th of April, Professora Margarida Tomé, a CEF researcher, was invited to speak at the conference 'Our Forests, Our Future' in Brussels.
The organization of this event was the responsibility of the European Commission, and included 3 European Commissioners as speakers.
The main objective of the event was to analyze and discuss future opportunities and challenges for a better adaptation of European policies related to the forestry sector.
Professor Margarida Tomé presented the theme 'Safeguarding and enhancing the delivery of ecosystem services through forests', which can be viewed here.
This presentation focused on the loss of ecosystem services due to forest hazards. The problem of the forest fires in Portugal was introduced, through a study case in Alvares; and the main reasons why the forest burns and some of the possible solutions at the forest management level have been advanced.
