It is not yet clear how people perceive the landscape and the environmental benefits it provides. For a better understanding, it was developed a study, coordinated by the University of Copenhagen and now published in Global Environmental Change, in which 2300 people were interviewed following participatory GIS techniques (PGIS) in order to identify and map these benefits in 13 different landscapes across Europe. CEF’s doctoral student Josep Crous-Duran collaborated with the Portuguese case study and interviewed 170 residents of the municipality of Montemor-o-Novo, considered within a typical montado agroforestry landscape. The results allowed to clarify the benefits that were more and better perceived by the local population and their spatial patterns, showing a clear link with the accessibility of the population to the landscape.
