The 2nd Stakeholders’ Workshop of the ALTERFOR project will be held November 6th 2018. We expect the participation of 35 Stakeholders representing forest owners, the forest and nature conservation service, the forest industry, municipalities and non governmental organizations. They will be engaged in the negotiation and selection of bundles of ecosystem services e.g. timber, carbon, wildfire protection, water, biodiversity and cultural services under alternative climate scenarios. The negotiation will build from results of the 1st ALTERFOR Stakeholder Workshop in 2017 and it will be supported by results of the research developed recently by the ALTERFOR Portuguese team.

ALTERFOR team researchers at CEF have been working together with Portuguese Stakeholders and research teams from other partner countries, to analyze stakeholders’ preferences regarding alternative forest management models, namely by taking into account their contribution to the provision of a wide range of ecosystem services.

The ALTERFOR project is supported by the Horizon 2020 programme financed by the European Commission. It brings together the experience and expertise from 20 organizations from 10 countries to propose alternative forest management models to address the 21st century challenges to forestry and natural resources. The Portuguese participation is coordinated by the Forest Research Centre and it involves the Forest Association of Vale do Sousa as a non-academic partner.
