2nd Stakeholders’ Workshop from ALTERFOR
The second Portuguese stakeholder workshop from the ALTERFOR project, took place on November 6th, 2018 at the Portuguese Catholic University in Porto. The list of participants included 23 representatives from the forest sector, 5 invited researchers and 9 researchers from CEF.
The main goal of the event was to elicit from stakeholders their preferences regarding target values for the ecosystem services provided by the Case Study Area - Vale do Sousa over a 90-years planning horizon. Stakeholders used an advanced computer tool to visualize and analyze trade-offs between ecosystem services and negotiate a consensual solution. They analyzed further the corresponding landscape mosaic of stand level forest management models in Vale do Sousa produced by the same tool.
The ALTERFOR project is supported by the Horizon 2020 programme financed by the European Commission. It brings together the experience and expertise from 20 organizations from 10 countries to propose alternative forest management models to address the 21st century challenges to forestry and natural resources. The Portuguese participation is coordinated by the Forest Research Centre and it involves the Forest Association of Vale do Sousa as a non-academic partner.
The Forest Research Center thanks the Portuguese Catholic University in Porto for the free use of the campus.
