The purpose of this research was to develop decision support modules
to generate strategic management plans for the Leiria National Forest.
Specifically, the DSS should include a
management information system (developed in sub-task 5.2), a prescription writer
with and a decision module with a model base formulation (linear
programming (LP), mixed integer (MIP), goal programming (GP) and stochastic
programming formulations) (developed in
sub-tasks 4.1, 4.4 and 4.5) as well as a graphical user interface.
This sub-task took the materials listed in sub-task 4.2 (e.g.
geographical and biometric data for the
367 stands (8685 ha)) and encompassed the programming of DSS modules,
i.e. the programming of a prescription writer that allows the user to develop
all silvicultural operations to perform over the planning horizon. It further
encompassed the programming of a growth simulator for maritime pine and of a
management model base (LP, MIP, GP and SP) (developed in task 4). In addition, a
link with the Forest Information System (INfLOR 2.2) developed in task 5,
sub-task 5.1 was programmed. Further an interface between the modules and a
graphical user interface was created in order to generate the management plans.
The current user interface allows generating models and selecting the
mathematical formulation (i.e. LP, MIP or GP). A graphical user interface for
solution reporting was also programmed. The application was implemented in
Visual Studio 2008 (Visual Basic) and the test problem was solved with a desktop
computer (CPU Duo P8400 with 3GB of RAM) and CPLEX.
This research produced innovative DSS modules
- that combines the use of a growth and yield model of a shrubs biomass
accumulation model and prescription writer a management model base for MIP, LP,
GP and SP solvers - to support strategic
management planning for the Leiria National Forest. This DSS provides
information.
