The fall armyworm (FAW) Spodoptera frugiperda Smith (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is a voracious pest that feeds mainly on cereals and other crops of economic importance. Originated from America, it has recently invaded the countries of sub-Saharan Africa where it currently threatens food security. FAW, caused by S. frugiperda, is an invasive pest that causes significant damage to maize crops, including Cabo Verde where maize is a crucial crop for food security. Knowledge of its natural enemies in Africa, particularly in Cabo Verde is limited. The beneficial action of competitors, pathogens, parasitoids and predators in the control of pests is very important. In this working plant, we aim to identify arthropods that naturally control this pest in Cabo Verde. The overall objective of this work is to determine the importance of natural control over the fall armyworm in Cabo Verde.
