Project RIVEAL releases new fact sheet – River regulation effects in riparian carbon stock

This factsheet – River regulation effects in riparian carbon stock – features the latest scientific knowledge about the effects of river regulation and land use changes in the carbon storage by riparian woods.

In particular, this factsheet shows the potential of riparian carbon storage compared with upland forests, its increase after the hydrological regulation and the high variability along the river. The influence of different river regulation types on carbon storage was also analysed.

The RIVEAL Project aims to map and quantify the ecosystem services of rivers and riparian forests, predict changes in different climate scenarios, and study various forms of land use and water management in Portuguese river landscapes.
