Our researchers Leónia Nunes and Susana Dias have participated in the kick-off meeting of the BRIGAID (Bridges the Gap for Innovations in Disaster resilience) European project, that was held on May, 12 and 13, at the University of Delft (Project Coordination institution), in the Netherlands.

For four years, the BRIGAID project will apply 7.8M € of the Horizon 2020 program to support innovations that could contribute to climate adaptation and reduction of natural disasters at the long term in Europe, such as the risks of floods, droughts and extreme weather conditions.

The CEABN InBIO is a partner of this project that has a consortium of 24 academic and industrial partners from 13 countries. CEABN InBIO will have a strong participation in the work related to the risks of drought and associated innovations to reduce their impact. This is the case of a monitoring module that combines drought and forest fire risk. It is also planned to test and develop market plans for the use of prescribed burning as a tool in order to integrate it into the support system of forest fires prevention.

40 participants attended this kick-off meeting with the objective to select the work strategies for the coming years and to prepare the next project general meeting that will be held in November 2016 (Official project website will be available soon).
