POME FRUIT POSTHARVEST INSTITUTE - 2015
The Pome Fruit Postharvest Institute is a high level technical meeting organized by the Freshness Lab for professionals with responsabilities in the different links of the pome fruit supply chain. Each year hot topics related to the reduction of postharvest losses and improvement of consumer satisfaction are discussed.
The Institute operates according to the following values: independent thinking, openness, technical skill, specialization, orientation for results and international scope.
In 2014, 40 participants discussed «Integrated Quality Management in a Chaging Technological Environment». This year's edition is dedicated to:

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
Decision-makers at the technical and managerial level who have responsabilities in the production, storage, preparation for market and garantee of client and consumer satisfaction of apple and pear.
OBJECTIVES
- Analyse the opportunities for quality improvement with pre-harvest operations;
- Highlight the role of calcium on apple and pear fruit quality and discuss strategies to place calcium into the fruit;
- Temperature management in international transportation by truck, railway and maritime;
- Discuss future challenges.

Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), Zaragoza, Spain.
Director of the CSIC's Estación Experimental de Aula Dei in Spain, Dr. Val is specialist in the nutrition of fruit trees, with relevant scientific and technical contributions to the understanding and manipulation of the relationship between calcium nutrition and fruit quality.
Chris Bishop
Writtle College, University of Essex, United Kingdom.
Postharvest professor at the Writtle College, Dr. Bishop has a large international consultancy experience in logistics and supply chain of produce, namely on storage and transportation facilities.
Domingos Almeida
Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal.
Professor and coordinator of the Freshness Lab, works on product and process engineering applicable to fruit and vegetable supply chains.
