25/07/2019 - 17:52

CEF members participated in the National Science Summit' 19 (FCT). The researchers presented posters and oral communications. The PhD student from the SUSFOR Programm, Duarte Neiva gave an oral presentation “Industrial and forest management bark residues: a possible antioxidant and antimicrobial renewable source” aiming at the valorization of barks from wood industries and forest management of invasive species as possible source of extracts with antioxidant and antimicrobial activity. These valorization is paramount of zero waste philosophy, taking advantage of rich chemical composition for acquiring new green compounds with e.g. antioxidant activities.

Paulo Branco, a researcher from FORBIO research line, presented an oral communication “Fish live in a fragmented world – river network connectivity”, showing in an integrative fashion following the general topic of river network connectivity. To bridge the gap between research and management, the researcher took a theoretical and applied approach to tackle the problematic of river fragmentation.
